Crochet Strawberry and Puff Flower Keychains

A pink strawberry and a white puff flower make a coordinated pair of crochet charms. The strawberry has a rounded, textured body with green leaves, while the flower combines plump white petals with a pink center.

The shared pink color connects the two designs without making them identical. Carry them together on a bag, or use each as a separate keychain.

These notes focus on shaping, texture, and finishing. Use the video at the end for the demonstrated stitch sequence; this article is a companion guide rather than a complete written pattern.

Choose colors that connect the pair

The finished set uses three main colors:

  • Pink: the strawberry body and flower center.
  • Green: the strawberry leaves.
  • White: the flower petals.

Repeating one color across both charms is a simple way to make a matching set. You could use red for the strawberry and flower center, or choose another shared accent.

Check the colors together before crocheting. The leaves should remain visible against the fruit, and the flower center should be distinct from its petals.

Keep the strawberry’s texture visible

The raised stitches are a main feature of this strawberry. As you work, pause to compare their size and spacing.

Check the piece from the side as well as the front. Texture can look even on a flat section but appear crowded once the fabric curves around the fruit.

If one raised section looks smaller, inspect its loops and closing stitch before continuing. Pulling the closing stitch tighter may compress the texture rather than improve it.

Check the shape before closing

If your chosen construction uses stuffing, add it gradually. Distribute small amounts around the inside instead of pushing one large clump into the center.

Look for a rounded upper body and a recognizable fruit outline. If the fabric stretches open or the surface details flatten, reduce the stuffing and check again.

Follow the demonstrated construction for the opening and closure; avoid changing the shape by overfilling it.

Position the green leaves

Arrange the leaves before securing them permanently. Check that they frame the top of the strawberry without covering too much of the pink body.

Turn the charm around and inspect the back, too. A keychain rotates during use, so the attachment and finishing will be visible from several angles.

Check both charms before adding hardware

Crochet tutorial step

Make the puff flower look balanced

The flower’s rounded petals depend on consistent loop height and tension.

When following the puff stitches in the video, draw the loops to a similar height rather than tightening each one against the hook. Leave enough room to complete the stitch without forcing the hook through the loops.

After each petal, compare it with the previous one. Correcting an uneven petal immediately is easier than trying to reshape the whole flower afterward.

Check the center and spacing

Lay the flower down without stretching it. Look at:

  • The position of the pink center.
  • The fullness of neighboring petals.
  • The spaces between petals.
  • Any stitch that pulls one petal toward the back.

A puff flower does not need to be completely flat, but its petals should look intentionally arranged rather than twisted by tight joins.

Troubleshoot the texture

One petal looks smaller

Check whether its loops were drawn shorter or its closing stitch was pulled tighter. Compare the stitch construction with the neighboring petal before reworking it.

The flower twists at the center

Inspect the joins and the center’s tension. Do not pull the petals outward to hide a tight connection; identify where the fabric is being drawn inward.

The strawberry looks lopsided

Check the stitch count and texture placement first. If the construction uses stuffing, inspect its distribution as well. Extra stuffing cannot correct a missed increase or decrease.

Plan how the charm will hang

Before attaching the key ring, hold each charm by its intended connection point.

Check that the strawberry hangs with its leaves at the top and that the flower shows the face you want visible. Reposition the connection if the charm consistently turns sideways.

Keep metal hardware clear of the raised stitches so it does not flatten a petal or rub directly against a decorative detail.

Secure the attachment

A decorative leaf or petal may not be a suitable load-bearing point on its own. Use the attachment method demonstrated in your pattern or video, and inspect the connection to the main piece.

For a yarn loop, check both the loop and the stitches securing its base. For a metal connector, make sure its opening is fully closed and no sharp edge catches the yarn.

Gently pull the finished connection and inspect the surrounding fabric. If a single stitch stretches noticeably, reassess the attachment before carrying the charm.

Final finishing checklist

Before clipping either charm onto your keys or bag:

  • Secure and weave in loose yarn ends.
  • Check the strawberry leaves from the front and back.
  • Compare the flower petals for uneven tension.
  • Inspect the hanging loop and metal connections.
  • Check that the hardware moves without snagging the crochet.
  • Follow the yarn’s care instructions when cleaning.

Would you carry the strawberry, the flower, or both together?
