A Little Crochet Christmas Tree Ornament 🎄

If you have a little yarn left over from another project, turn it into a decoration you can bring out every December. This crochet Christmas tree is made from three sections that layer together, then finished with pearl beads and a ribbon bow. Hang it on your tree, or use it to make a wrapped gift feel more personal.

What you’ll need

Gather a small amount of yarn for the tree, a hook that works with your yarn, scissors, pearl beads, ribbon, and supplies for attaching the decorations and making a hanging loop. You can make the tree in classic green or choose a color that matches your holiday decorations.

If you’re new to crochet, give yourself a little longer than the 20 minutes in the title. It’s easier to enjoy a small project when you can pause the video and check each piece as you go. 🧶

Make the tree in three sections

Crochet the top, middle, and bottom sections in that order, following the stitches demonstrated in the video. Before assembling them, place all three on a flat surface. You should be able to see each layer peeking out beneath the one above it.

Take a moment to straighten the pieces and decide how much of each layer you want visible. Checking the shape now is much easier than adjusting it after the decorations are attached.

Assemble and decorate

Join the three sections as shown in the tutorial. Then arrange the pearl beads on the front of the tree. Try their positions before securing them so they’re spaced in a way you like; a few well-placed beads let the crochet texture show through.

Add the ribbon bow as the final decorative detail. If this will hang on a Christmas tree, attach a loop at the top and lift the ornament by that loop before calling it finished. This quick check lets you see how it hangs and whether any part needs adjusting.

Make it yours

A deep green tree with a simple bow has a traditional feel. For a softer look, try a muted green or cream yarn and a ribbon in a similar shade. You could also make several trees with different ribbon colors to distinguish gifts for family and friends.
